Put simply, the more storage space you have, the more files you will be able to hold on our server, and therefore be able to publish on your website.
• BandwidthThe best analogy is to compare bandwidth with gas in a car. If your car runs out of gas, it can't go anywhere. If you run out of bandwidth, no one can visit your site. 1Gb is equivalent to roughly 100,000 page hits on your website (content-dependant).
• POP3 vs IMAPPOP3 is the standard protocol for modern email clients. Mail is downloaded to your client from the server, and then subsequently deleted from the server. IMAP only downloads "headers" (a set of instructions which contain the basics of an email, Sender, Recipient, Subject, Time Delivered, etc). IMAP only downloads the message upon request, and therefore makes this solution ideal for web-based mail clients, or email on-the-go using netbooks or cellphones on GPRS/HSDPA. It also comes with the added benefit of allowing you to use an email client at home, but still check your webmail at work or out and about.
• FTPFTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It's a protocol which has been around for decades, and will allow you to transfer your files from your computer onto our servers to make them publically accessible. CoreFTP is an example of a free FTP client for Windows.
• PHPPHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Processor (a recursive acronym - where the first letter of the acronym is the acronym). It is a scripting language used to make dynamic websites. Most forums, blogs and CMS systems are written in PHP, and all of our accounts support using anything written in PHP.
• MySQLMySQL is a database server which complements software written in PHP. It is the backend for most modern day websites, a very powerful database engine. All our accounts come with inclusive access to our MySQL server.
• Control PanelThe Control Panel we use is called DirectAdmin. It is a very powerful, yet easy to use system for users to manage their accounts with, from setting up email and forwarding addresses, to maintaining MySQL databases, uploading files, amongst many other things. A full manual is maintained for it at site-helper.com
• CrontabA Crontab is the Linux equivalent to Windows' Scheduled Tasks feature. It allows you to run applications or scripts every so often, or at a particular time every day. Some forum software uses the crontab to cleanup their user databases, or to email users digests and updates.
